As Director of the Council Bluffs Parks Department, the late Richard Downing left a legacy by leading the development of the Council Bluffs Recreation Complex. Now his memorial fund at the Pottawattamie County Community Foundation (PCCF) is helping with another of his priorities - Fairmount Park.

The Richard Downing Memorial Fund, held at PCCF, was created by Cheryl Heininger, Downing's widow, from contributions to honor Downing, who passed away in 1998.

Heininger presented Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh with a check for $1,350 as a grant from the Richard Downing Memorial Fund to the "Return to Fairmount Park" campaign.

"Dick said his next priority after the complex was to bring Fairmount Park back to life, so he would be very pleased with this renewal effort" said Heininger, "and he'd be happy with this grant from his PCCF fund to aid the cause."

Establishing an endowment fund with the community foundation is a great way for people to continue making a positive impact on future generations.
